What CAUSES a Hangover? Deficiency of vitamin B12 Ethanol molecules produce twice its amount in NADH using your B12 as its coenzyme. Vitamin B12 deficiency is one of the factors that cause the tiredness and grogginess associated with hangovers. Vitamin B12 has many functions including, but not limited to, protecting the liver from toxins, helping extract energy from foods consumed, the formation of red blood cells and more. One option we have used is taking some Vitamin B12 before going to bed to help relieve some of the sluggish symptoms of a Vitamin B12 deficiency from the alcohol metabolism process.
